Hampton Roads Employment by Sector
During the recession, the Hampton Roads region lost a significant
portion of its core employment sectors, which include military,
construction,
manufacturing and trade/transportation/utilities.
Professional occupations, including those in information and financial
sectors maintained close to the same level of employment and are
projected to gain jobs in the next two decades. Government and
service-oriented employment increased during the recession and is
expected to continue to grow at a slower pace for the next 10 years.
