Industrial Growth in Hampton Roads
Industrial development has grown in a different direction than office in
the region. Originally, the industrial was concentrated along the ports in
the region, and rapidly grew during the 1950s to the 1970s to the
northeast of Norfolk, and to the southwest along the Elizabeth River.
During the 1970s, industrial development continued around the
significant amount of industrial development. During the 2000s, the
Cavalier Industrial Park became more significant. Unlike many regions,
most of the employment cores in the Hampton Roads region have at
least some industrial development.
